Some of these charities may around during in times of crisis such as the tsunami relief. Here are some tips on how to determine which charities are legitimate and which ones aren't.
- Ask for written information. Legitimate charities should and will have brochures, posters and other ways of increasing awareness. The information may also help show how much of your charity is actually going to the cause.
- Be wary if you are praised for a donation that you do not remember making. This method may be used to make you give more. Also, if you do not remember, check your pledges and see if you did make a donation, but have forgotten about it.
- To check a list of your local charities, call 1-888-892-5667- You can call your local Better Business Bureau or visit their website to check whether the selected charity has any filed complaints.
