Mike Huckabee, a United States presidential hopeful, spoke out recently regarding the very hotly debated topic of abortion and whether or not abortion should be legal in the United States. He argued that over the last 30 years, abortion has killed over 1 million fetuses who would potentially be in the American work force today. Consequently, he felt that there would be less immigration necessary to service shortages in the workforce, had these babies not be killed. Huckabee's arguments also focused on the morality of abortion.
In my opinion, particularly in certain circumstances, I believe in pro-choice, which makes abortion legal up to a certain point in the pregnancy. For example, a 15 year old girl gets pregnant and the father of the baby disappears. If the girl does not want to have the baby, why should she be forced to? The lives of two people may be ruined as the baby will be growing up without a father figure and with a mother who never wanted him/her in the first place. The mother's future may be limited, educationally and work-wise due to her child and her single-parent status.
Other examples of situations in which an abortion may be desired by the mother or parents would be if an abortion needed to be done to preserve the life of the pregnant woman, of if the pregnancy was having an adverse effect on the pregnant women's health - physically or mentally. What if the baby had a serious congenital disorder which would be fatal? Is it fair to rule out an abortion if any of these circumstances applied?
I believe that instead of outlawing abortion altogether and saying it is unethical, each case should be examined individually and a pro-choice approach taken.

Well put Kent. I agree that each case should be examined. If a pregnancy is not planned it could ruin the lives of the parents and it could ruin the child's life if the parents are too young or not around. People argue that it is unethical but if it is then why is the death penalty still in action in some states. I think that if people do not want to have a child then they should be given the right to get an abortion.

True that, i couldnt have put it better. People should really think about the situation before saying it should be illegal. for example, if some girl gets raped, obviously the rapist is going to disappear. is she expected to keep the baby of an unknown man, and have a ruined life? i personally dont think so, and i disagree with abortion ebing illegal
I agree both with Devin and Kawn. This might be a way for people to start over that have been raped as Russell said. They cant make something like this illegal for this type of think is important to some people. I think that people who want to make this illegal should just keep the babies that are being born and see that it would be much easier to take an abortion then to take care of a child.
i think that abortion should stay legal! Just like the article said a girl should have a choice of wanting a child or not. It can ruin her life and the babies life as it grows up
I think that abortion should be legal. Even though people are saying that abortion kills, what about the parents. Sure you may be saving a fetus who techniqually isn't even born yet, but what are you doing to the parents. If two young teenagers aren't even in a relationship and one get's pregnant, that could be destructive to their lives. It would put aside all future aspirations and dreams. All future hopes of living a joyous successfull life, crashed by this. You should be able to choose wether you want an abortion or not. Personally, if I got a girl pregnant at my age, i'd definilty get the abortion.
I agree that abortion should be legal. Just like what Kent said, the mother may not put the baby in the first place, which means, she would throw the baby away and do something else to get rid of the baby. This, indeed, is done more harmful to a born baby than to kill a feutus with no feeling at all. Besides, if the woman who is raped and pregnent, forcing her to give birth to the child may cause psychological impact on her. One more thing, everybody in this society has his/her own right to choose what they want to do. I think abortion should be included.
How many of the 1 million fetuses aborted were aborted because they were products of rape, or had posed serious medical health issues to the mother?
